In conversation with Rohan de Saram
Rohan is one of the most celebrated cellists in the world. He studied with Gaspar Cassadó and Pablo Casals, who said of him, “There are few of his generation that have such gifts”.
He has worked closely with many composers including Walton, Kodály, Poulenc and Shostakovich.
Rohan has performed with the major orchestras of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and the former Soviet Union with conductors such as Barbirolli, Boult, Zubin Mehta and Seiji Ozawa. In ensemble or as a soloist he has premiered works by Britten, Cage, Hindemith, Ligeti, Nancarrow and Xenakis. Berio wrote his Sequenza XIV specially for him.
